Youth Scholarship Program
Own & Show Paint Horses to Secure Your Future
Any Youth can join SJPHC. There are no residency requirements to earn a scholarship.
Help the SJPHC Scholarship Committee reach its
$10,000 Scholarship Goal
The SJPHC Scholarship Committee works tirelessly to raise donations for the scholarship fund, money that helps families to cover the rising cost of tuition while providing incentives to own and show Paint Horses.
Our goal of $10,000 from private & corporate donors is achievable with your support.
We accept any donation amount. The goal is to have sufficient funds to award scholarships in as many Youth classes as possible.
Please consider giving to this valuable cause.
Your donation helps secure the future of the equine industry.
If you have any questions, please contact SJPHC Scholarship Committee Chairman, Fred Tabor, at 940-453-1038.
Donate a Scholarship
SJPHC is a 501(c)3 corporation and donations are tax deductible. Donate online now or view the donation form (PDF) below.
Please send your donation (you choose the amount) to SJPHC or let us know the amount of your pledge, to be funded by July 1.
If you have any questions, please contact our Scholarship Committee Chairman, Fred Tabor, at 940-453-1038.
Donors will be recognized by announcement in the arena, on a banner, and through posts on social media by name or logo. In addition, all donors are invited to present the scholarships to the winning kids at the show, which is a lot of fun.
Qualify for a Scholarship ("Rules")
• See APHA YP-010. Youth Eligibility
• The Youth contestant must be a current member of the San Joaquin Paint Horse Club BEFORE COMPETING IN THE CLASS.
• Any Youth can join SJPHC regardless of where they live or keep their horse. There are no residency requirements to qualify.
• The horse must be owned/leased by the Youth or their family (as officially recorded by APHA).
• If the Youth is competing with a leased horse, the lease must be in place at APHA at least 60 days prior to the show.
Win a Scholarship
During the Youth Scholarship Circuit show, scholarships will be available in certain APHA Youth classes (depending on the classes donors choose for their donation).
For example, if we award $1,000, the allocation is as follows:
• 50% to first place ($500 scholarship)
• 30% to second place ($300 scholarship)
• 20% to a random draw in the class ($200 scholarship)
The allocation of scholarships may change annually depending on donations to each particular class.
Redeem a Scholarship
SJPHC holds the scholarship amount in a trust account until the Youth exhibitors have been graduated from high school and have enrolled in an accredited college, university, or trade school.
Once a scholarship winner meets the redemption criteria, they will contact SJPHC Treasurer, Laura Hamill, via email lauralhamill@gmail.com or phone 559-285-3500 and provide the following information:
• Your name
• Proof that you are enrolled in an accredited institution (college or trade school)
• Student ID number
• Address of the Bursar’s Office or the Financial Aid Office at your institution
• Date classes start
SJPHC will pay the scholarship amount in your name directly to the college or trade school.

SJPHC Scholarship FAQs
How are scholarship funds disbursed?
When requesting scholarship funds you earned from SJPHC, the sooner you send in your request for the upcoming semester the better. We require 2 signatures on all scholarship checks and rely on the US Post Office. SJPHC Treasurer will receive the request from you, along with “Proof of Enrollment” and will then prepare the check. After the second approval, the payment will be mailed directly to your University.
We require acceptable Proof of Enrollment before issuing a check. This should be e-mailed to SJPHC Treasurer, Laura Hamill at lauralhamill@gmail.com.
What is acceptable Proof of Enrollment?
Any one of the following documents is considered acceptable proof of enrollment if it clearly shows your name and the name and address of the issuing school:
- Your student identification card
- A transcript or course list showing the courses in which you are enrolled
- Proof that you have accepted an offer to attend an eligible post secondary academic program
- Other proof which has your name, school name and a recent date on it.
What if I don't redeem all of my scholarship?
Scholarships not redeemed by the winner’s 25th birthday will be released to the scholarship fund and reissued in the next period. Any tax consequences are the responsibility of the recipient.
Who do I ask for details on claiming my scholarship?
Questions about claiming your scholarship can be directed to SJPHC Treasurer, Laura Hamill via email lauralhamill@gmail.com or phone 559-285-3500.
